Diving Similan Islands, Thailand

The word Similan is actually derived from the Malay word for nine – Simbilan. Comprised of nine granite islands that run from north to the south in the Andaman Sea off the western coast of Thailand, the National Park also includes Koh Bon, a limestone island that lies 30 kms to the north. Diving Similan Islands is widely regarded as the finest in Thailand.

The water temperature around the Similan Islands varies between 27 and 29 degrees celcius. Depending on environmental factors the clarity (visibility) ranges from 10 – 30m. Much of the reason for the clear waters around the park is due to the fact that there are no large rivers in the area that would otherwise bring silt and sediment and thus disturb the clarity of the water.

On the eastern coastlines of the islands divers can enjoy sloping fringe reefs in protected bay areas, here tranquil coral gardens create a myriad of colors. Soft purple and red corals bring the reefs to life whilst dense schools of glass fish congregate above. Whilst on the western facing coasts the topography of the Similans has become famous the world over for its gigantic granite boulders that stack up against one and other. Encrusted gorgonian fans sway in the currents that bring nutrient rich waters and often larger fish than you might expect on the eastern facing coasts. To be able to enjoy such contrasting topographical features over such a realtively small area is why the Similan Islands has become so popular to dive travelers the world over.

Of the large pelagics that you might expect encounters with, leopard sharks are not uncommon. Usually lying in deeper waters on sandy ledges its best to approach from the front or side so that they can see you approach, do so cautiously and its quite likely it’ll allow you to get within reasonable distance for a photo. Manta rays can sometimes seen gliding past on the deeper boulder sites and even the whale shark has been known to make an appearance. There’s also an abundance of macro life to be found, look on the underhangs of coral bombies for ghost pipe fish. Frog fish, although masters of disguise, can also be found for those with keen eyes. Colorful ribbon eels usually prefer to be in deeper waters in sandy rubbly areas and make good photo subjects.

All in all diving Similan Islands make for a great holiday getaway, with a whole range of liveaboards and day trip options on offer it still an attracive destination for even the most seasoned diver.

Cayman Islands – Like Water Sports, But Hate Diving Or Snorkelling?

The Cayman Islands are well known for the outstanding dive sites and clear waters, but what if this doesn’t interest you? Well there are plenty of other water sports that you can take part in. John Guinn, the Cayman Islands Specialist at Holiday Hut lists his top nine.

Parasailing

When parasailing (also know as parascending) you are attached to a specially designed parachute, or parasail, and to a boat. The forward movement of the boat causes the parachute to rise and you are lifted up in the air. If the boat has enough power, then two or three people can share the same parachute.

Jet Ski

Jet Ski is a brand name, but in the same way that all spa baths are Jacuzzis and all vacuum cleaners are Hoovers, any personal watercraft that relies on a petrol powered engine and acts like a motorbike is know as a Jet Ski.

Jet skiing is fantastic fun, after a brief introduction you could be powering across the water on your own, or even going on a Jet Ski Safari to Stingray City. Just try not to think about the fact that they don’t have brakes!

Kiteboarding/Kitesurfing

Simple to explain, but difficult to master, a kiteboarder has his feet strapped to a board, while holding onto a large kite. The kite is used to propel the kiteboarder across the water. Both the board and the kite have to be controller to enable the kiteboarder to move and to do stunts. The Cayman Islands have a warm steady wind year round, making it the ideal place to learn to Kiteboard.

Windsurfing

Once called ‘surfing’s ginger haired cousin’ by the traditional surfers, windsurfing has become very popular, and until recently windsurfers were able to travel on waves that were too large for tradition surfing. A windsurf board is similar to a surfboard, but has a large sail, with a boon attached to it. Similar stunts to those performed by kiteboarders are possible. The best place to windsurf on Grand Cayman is near a flat water reef at East End. Speak to local guides if you want a more challenging surf.

Wakeboarding

When wakeboarding you are towed along by a motorboat while your feet are strapped to a wakeboard. It is a combination of water skiing, snowboarding and surfing.

Wakesurfing

A surfer is pulled along by the same type of boat that is used in wakeboarding, except the surfer releases the two rope and surfs the wake produced by the boat in a similar manner as normal surfing.

Surfing

Not a sport that you would associate with the calm Caribbean Sea, but at certain times of the year it is possible to have some challenging waves around he Cayman Islands. The Hurricane Season particularly August and September can see large swells due to nearby hurricanes and tropical storms. Although you could go weeks without a decent wave.

Sailing

Although off the beaten track, the Cayman Islands have excellent waters in which to sail. Despite the generally calm waters, there are hidden dangers with the many coral reefs around the islands, so care should be taken. Also these reefs make excellent places to stop and admire the underwater life (following the strict laws about mooring, or course). It is probably best to avoid the hurricane season as the rains and winds can make sailing difficult. If you don’t have your own boat, local companies have group sailings, or you could charter your own yacht along with a crew.

Kayaks

Sometimes called a canoe in error, a kayak differs from a canoe in that it has a closed paddling area. Also in a kayak you sit on a seat directly on the bottom of the boat and your legs are extended in front of you, but in a canoe you either kneel or sit on a elevated seat.

You can either kayak along the beach near your hotel, or for a magical experience you could go on a guided Eco-Tour around Grand Cayman and get a better understanding of the natural hidden beauty of the Cayman Islands.

Visit www.caymanactivityguide.com for a list of suppliers for these activities. This website also has discount vouchers for some companies. For more information on how to get the most out of your Cayman Islands holiday contact John Guinn at Holiday Hut Ltd

Why Do You Want a Website

Do you really think you can create a website? No? Not true, of course you can! Most people wrongly believe that they’ll never be able to create a website. The terms geek, guru and nerd spring to mind and you already feel intimated. Then you think about how to design a website and worry that it takes a lot of training, time and effort. Not to mention a boat load of programming skills!

Nothing could be further from the truth! I won’t lie and say that it takes no time and effort, there are some skills that you will need to learn, but it’s not as hard or time consuming as you may think. There are lots of programs and helpful sites that can take you step by step through the process of designing a website and then building it. You don’t need to break the bank hiring a web design company, With a few skills and some forethought you can build a website yourself.

Where Do I Start?

Your website does not have to be complicated and loaded with loads of flash animations, videos, graphics and the latest audio feeds. In fact these types of sites are often difficult to navigate, slow to load and not very nice to look at. Adding some multimedia into your website design can be done at a later stage, often the best and most successful websites are the simple sites and this is where you should start.

It’s all in the Planning

Before you dive in and start trying to create a website there are a few questions you should ask yourself. Go and get a pen and paper, then answer these next few questions.

Why do you want a website? This may seem like an obvious question, but take some time to think about it. Answering this question will help you identify new opportunities and leads directly into our next question; What is the purpose of your website? This is the most important question to answer as it will drive the whole website design process. You’ll design a store front site in a totally different way to an information site.

Next try to determine whet your main products are going to be and write them down. This will help you with the website design and navigation. Finally who is your audience? The language you use and to a lesser extent the style of your site will be dependent on this answer. You’ll use different language and look and feel if you’re trying to appeal to teens of college students than a website designed to appeal to business to business.

Pulling the Website design Together

Now go through your answers and on a separate sheet of paper start grouping your products (or information if its an information website) into main categories. These will all become web pages and form the first tier of navigation off your main page. Make sure the focus here is in keeping with the purpose of your website. There may be some further sub categories and these can be your second tier web pages that flow naturally from the first tier.

For instance if your main site is about golf, first tier web pages will be things like Golf Clubs, Golf Shoes, Golf Bags, Golf Accessories and Gold Courses. A second tier may come off Golf Accessories that covers Golf Balls, Golf Tees, Golf Club Head Covers etc. Keep the design of your website navigation clean and easy to follow so that your visitors can find what they want quickly and easily.

All About My Scuba Diving Experience

Scuba diving is a great way to experience the underwater kingdom. It gives you the chance to unveil the mysteries and the wonders of the environment which covers the majority of our planet. It is believed that once you learn all about scuba diving, it will become a lifelong obsession. After I had a private lesson, it is time to take an exam for an open water dive certificate. My exam took place in Boracay Island. Boracay is a famous tourist destination. With its white sandy beaches and blue clear water, it is considered a paradise island. Many wonderful and interesting marine lives can also be found in the dive sites. The marine life is very diversified that a diver will definitely enjoy and love diving in.

During my first dive experience I was really excited but a bit nervous. I really tried hard not panic as I and my instructor went deeper and deeper underwater. This is my chance to overcome my fear. It was not long I felt comfortable. It was really a great experience, seeing the beauty of sea wildlife because of the presence of many varieties of reef fish, with Lagoon Rays and moray eels. It was totally a different world. It is so quite. For me, it is a total relaxation.

Another diving experience that was unforgettable in my lifetime was when I scuba dive in Tulum, Mexico. Tulum offers some of the best reef diving and snorkeling in the Mayan Riviera, together with exciting and cave diving. Around Tulum you will have access to many freshwater caverns known as cenotes, part of an ancient underwater river system running from the deep jungle to the sea throughout the Yucatan Peninsula. A combination of various geological events and climate changes created an incredible and unique ecosystem in Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. I am positive that you will not be disappointed with your scuba diving experience in Tulum.

Several things I appreciate about my visit in Tulum are the not so crowded beaches, its white, sugar-like sand and turquoise blue water, and their rustic cabanas. These cabanas are quite unique Tulum accommodations. This place is not for you if you’re looking for luxuries. But since we visited as a group we opted to rent a Tulum beach house.

I am really eager to experience more in scuba diving, to widen my knowledge and explore more.

Learning to Dj

Being a DJ may come across as like an easy career path for most people. There are a huge amount of would be DJs who are just as into music as the next person. The best way to get ahead in this industry is to be work extremely hard within your promotions and flexibility.

You should not turn down an chance to play, regardless of to what crowd. This is very important for a couple of reasons. Most beginners will refuse to play a different genre to the type of music they are used to. Playing all types of music to any crowd can greatly help build confidence. On occasion you will stuff up, but everyone makes errors at one time or another. You should rather concentrate on the positives to come out of it, you’ll be gaining more and more experience. Experience builds confidence and the more confidence you can build, the less likely you are to create errors.

Its vital for a DJ to be able to be flexible. Sticking to one type of genre is all extremely well for an established DJ however, when you are still learning beggers can’t be choosers. Play whatever you believe will get the job done, until you create a name for yourself.

With today’s quickly growing technology, there is always new music equipment becoming available. If you don’t learn to use it, you’ll get left behind. If you can’t afford it, hire it, do whats neccesary to help deeper your career!

One thing that most DJ’s have a hard time with when they are just starting out is self-promotion. This is just as important, if not more so, than the music itself. The reason for this is because you can be the best DJ in the World, but if no one knows who you are, you won’t get anywhere. Don’t stress too much though, self-promotion is very easy. Most bands have made a name for themselves through various social networks such as myspace, you can do the same. You can also find plenty of sites where you can upload your songs all over the internet!

If you’ve read this far, i’m guessing you’re serious about this, so get researching! You could easily set up an account on one of the bigger social networking sites and start uploading your songs to the sites you’ve found. You can then get your word out through forums, writing articles like this one, there are loads of things you can do!

DJ’s have the ability to earn a extremely nice income, as they are suprisingly well paid. You should always create sure that you have some money saved however incase you go through a patch of not having any bookings. You could also save money to dive deeper into the industry and start an agency. As I mentioned earlier, the opportunities are endless.

The undeniable truth is that 90% will not create it to the level they goal of. It takes a lot of hard work and determination to create it in this industry, whether you are a DJ or a producer.

You have to be able to accept that you are going to get rejected sometimes and hopefully with a lot of hard work you will be able to live your goal of working within the music industry full time.

Dive Head First Into The Powerful World Of PC Games Rental

It is hard to find a quality PC games rental service since most of them require the newest computer systems available on the market. However, you can find some video game web site rental services that can provide you games better suited to your PC, but only after you download a special installer on your personal home computer.

The hardcore PC game players now have the opportunity to choose and play pc games as streaming versions online. They must pay a low fee and may play the streaming game for 2 or 3 days. The fee obtained for the PC game rental is credited then towards buying the full version of the game. The most recent PC games include all types ranging from strategy (Defcon, Company Of Heroes, Battle Of Britain2: Wings Of Victory), action (Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Chaos Theory) to sports (Madden NFL07), adventure or puzzle games.

PC game rental have quickly become a marketing strategy created by the game companies to draw the players into online paying subscriptions that will finally add to their full version products finances. The game rental market has not fully developed because of the complex installation and service problems of PC games on a home computer.

Another issue would be the license one, because the PC games are easy to pirate when compared to console games and PC games companies are not very comfortable as a result with this idea. When choosing your desired game rental service, pay particular attention to your credit card as the children are the ones that mostly opt for this kind of service. Many online PC game rental sites offer credit card payment options and parental guidance is often absolutely necessary. Before you decide on a web site that will provide you the games to rent, check its history on their service, in order to avoid dealing with pirated game rental services.

Online PC game rentals are especially designed in such a manner that it will not allow the game to be pirated. The gamers have the chance to explore the virtual world within the game but under the careful supervision of the digital rights management system that will make sure that only authorized gamers have access to the PC games.

Therefore, if you are a serious video game player, you should do your research; find the best company best suited to your tastes and when you rent games, it is a good idea to rent games as a testing period with full anticipation of investments in the full game itself. With the mere cost of a few dollars, you can find out if your investment in a full version game will work. You should find no downsides to PC game rentals, there are none; experiencing new playing strategies at low costs will be satisfying enough.
