Traveling to Cuba and need some information?

Hey everyone!

I was just wondering if anyone could give me some tips on what to do in Santa Lucia – Cuba, as well as provide me with some information.

Here are the questions I have:
- What is the weather generally like in Santa Lucia? Is it humid, dry, does it rain a lot?
- Is the water really warm or generally colder?
- Are there a lot of mosquitoes there at night and is it necessary to bring bug spray? (I’m asking this because I’m allergic to mosquitoes and if I get bitten too much, I get a rash)
- Are the electrical outlets the same as in Canada and the United States? I’m asking this because I don’t know if I need to buy an adapter for my electronic devices (camera charger, hair straightener, etc…)
- Is the tap water safe to drink?
- Is the water really that good for scuba diving and seeing a lot of marine water?

If you have any other tips on what to do in Santa Lucia? Are there any attractions I should see or places I should visit?

Also I am just wondering if anyone knew how far is Cayo Coco (Cuba) from Santa Lucia (Cuba)? Is it possible to drive between these two locations by car/bus/taxi or does it require a plane ride?

Thank you.

You have soo many questions. It is not possible to drive from Cuba to St.Lucia you will have to take a plane.

A lot depends when you go and what you are comparing to.

Cuba is generally warmer than northern latitudes.

Take a trip into Camaguey to see what it is like.

Ask on Debbie’s for people who have been there, and what they have done.

Here’s a repeat of my answers:

Electricity – depends on where you are staying. Whilst in general the electricity outlets are the same as Canada/US, some hotels have European style fittings.

Oasis Brisas Santa Lucia – 220V
Club Amigo Caracol- 220V but with N. American style flat prong outlets. Converter required.
    Club Amigo Mayanabo – 110V
Gran Club Santa Lucia – 220V European outlets with 110V N. American style plug in bathroom

    Take bug spray.

Stick to bottled water for drinking. Tap water won’t kill you, and should be OK for cleaning your teeth, but it could give you an upset stomach.

    Cayo Coco
It’s probably about 150 kms direct – but you cannot go direct.

By the main roads, it is probably 300 kms – at least 3 hours drive. (via Ciego de Avila and Camaguey).

It might be quicker going by lesser roards – as long as the driver knew their way.

It would not be easy to fly – I don’t think there is an airport very near Santa Lucia, and there aren’t direct flights anyway.
